"Why so many brushproducing companies exist in Kirov?"

There are several viewpoints why it is Kirov city which became the center of the brush production in Russia:

1st theory.It is known that 200 years ago in Vyatka (old name of Kirov) were produced clay Dymkovo toys. Sticks braided with a rag were used for it. Maybe that was a prototype of the first brush, produced here.

2nd theory.This craft was brought by workmen from Moscow or Veliky Ustyug. Vyatka was a place of exile. There were a lot of gifted people from all over the country here.

But most likely the origin of this business should be searched for in Germany, in the small town of Bechhofen. It is a place where now the oldest brush factories are situated. In 1933 most of the inhabitants were Jews. When national socialists came to power in Germany, Jews began to leave the country. They left for their relatives in different countries. So a lot of brush companies appeared all over the world. As old brushmakers say, there was one immigrant who prompted this business - he showed how to do the things. But was this artel the first in Vyatka or was it just an attempt to revive native business which was in decline after the dispossession of the kulaks?

Kirov school of brush producing had been developing in isolation from brush producers in other countries. That fact means one but grate advantage - in Russia we have the most convenient for customers system of brushes numbering: a number of a round brush corresponds to the diameter of the tuft, and a number of a flat brush - to the width of the tuft. This happened because such were state requirements. All the other brush producers don't have this correspondence.
